#38 Redo an Old Piece of Furniture

I have been thinking about refinishing my old dresser for a while now.

I remember sitting on top of this dresser to spy on my parents outside.  It was a summer night when my sister and I were super young, so that meant bedtime before sunset.  I never wanted to be left out of the action and thought I was missing something…ergo the spying.  Harriet the Spy was my hero for some time.

Anyway, I remember my mom staining this when I was very young…therefore it was in need of some sprucing.

BEFORE! It’s nice…just not my style and doesn’t match what I’m planning for the bedroom decor

AFTER!!

We sanded it lightly and then applied a simple white-wash stain.  It was so easy and quick because it isn’t meant to look perfect…which was super hard for Doug and I to accept.  We found some new knobs at The De-Pot…The Home Depot.  We love how it turned out and can’t wait to see what it looks like with everything else in room…eventually.

What the Heck is Oven Loven?

I have an answer for you!!

I love to bake…seriously, love!  I daydream about baking and I fall asleep thinking about new cupcake flavors to try.  It’s a good thing I currently work as a baker otherwise all this stuff would be sitting around my house constantly…although, I don’t think the Hubster would complain too much.  On the other end of the spectrum, I am currently forcing myself to like cooking.  I’m not sure if it is the lack of ideas and prep work or the whole process itself, I just really don’t enjoy cooking.

This is my logic:

1. Most ingredients in baking don’t have an ick factor.  Raw meat…ick.

2. I have never come across any dessert/baking recipe that stinks.  I cannot stand the way onions and the process of frying makes the house stink for a week.

3. I feel like when you cook, you run the risk of killing someone…ok, maybe not kill, but food poisoning… salmonella….see #1.  Raw eggs are the only thing I can think of in baking that could possibly make you sick…but seriously, who actually does??

4.  I have never met a baked good that I didn’t like.  I am a super crazy picky eater when it comes to non-dessert food…and it is easier and more fun to make food you actually enjoy

5.  You wouldn’t think so, but it is incredibly difficult to find a recipe without mayonnaise…which is quite possibly the most disgusting food on earth…it is solid fat…it jiggles…and have you seen it when it sits there for a couple minutes….making me nauseous just thinking about it

So, anyhoos…Oven Loven is my space to let you know what I’m making in the kitchen, what I’m thinking about trying, triumphs and total flops.  I hope you are hungry!

My Love/Hate Relationship with Our Kitchen Renovation

I am ecstatic that very soon my kitchen will look absolutely beautiful.  However, this whole not having a functional kitchen thing is getting old.  We started this project on June 11th and I think we were ready for it to be done on June 12th.  It isn’t a total renovation…walls and floor mainly, but we don’t do simple in this household, so it has been a process.  We redid our counter-tops shortly after we got married…replacing the old wood-grain laminate with marble tile.  We also bought a new sink because the old one was like an inch deep…ok, maybe 4… seriously…and it was that kind of stainless steel that always looked dirty.  Most of the cabinets were new when my husband bought the house, so those don’t need replacing.  The walls and floor were a mess though…not to mention I couldn’t stand the wall color…sorry honey!  The previous owners had obviously not been professional sheet-rock guys so they were pretty bad.  And there was an old laminate floating floor that was coming apart and just plain pitiful looking.

This is the before of the sink and cabinet area

The before of the fridge and oven area…duh

The before of where we do our eating…do you see my bread hoard to the right?

How come my kitchen looks so nice in pictures but when I try to take a picture of myself I look like complete death…anyways…

Where our fridge is currently residing…in my living room, along with our table

My poor oven and dishwasher are being subjected to this crazy heat…   *Quick Note…my husband is all worried that we look like slobs in this pic…however I am sure that most people know what everything looks like during home renovations*

So, that is the current state of my kitchen….living room…and back porch.  A terrible result of not having a functioning kitchen is that I can’t make dinner…insert sarcasm here.  I’ll post after pics as soon as there is an after but right now I have to go play checkers with a unicorn…or maybe that is the polyurethane talking…naw.

#99 Start A Blog

Maybe I had already set up this blog before I actually started making the 101 in 1001 list…but I didn’t actually add any real content until now.  So, I don’t consider this cheating 🙂  I have been an avid blog reader for a couple years now.  Once I discovered the blogging world, I couldn’t leave.  I fell in love with the community, the imaginative thoughts and ideas, and the support from readers and other bloggers.  I then had to figure out a name, which was much harder then deciding to start a blog.  Eventually, BreadButterGlitter popped in my head.  Bread for my love of all things carbilicious…Butter for my love of baking…and Glitter for the obsession I’ve had since 6th grade.

I wanted to cover a couple topics, maybe adding more as my life changes.

101 in 1001: A list of 101 tasks to be completed in 1001 days

Oven Loven:  New recipes…mostly baking, but hopefully some actual cooking which I currently hate but would love to well…love

Pin Twin: Taking something off Pinterest and turning it into a reality

Humble Abode: All about my mission to make our house look like a girl actually lives here

In addition to these topics, I want to be able to share everything…well almost everything…of my life…my travels, renovation projects, random thoughts.  I think it’s going to be fun.

#101 Finish This List

I thought that this task would be the easiest of them all…not so much.  By the time I reached #60ish, I was seriously struggling for ideas.  My goal was to come up with a list that I would actually be able to finish but weren’t things that I did everyday or have ever done.  It took me a month…no joke, and this is coming from a girl who obsessively makes lists.  You guys should start a list and let me know what some of your big goals are.  Good Luck!
